Geordi has been the gift of a second chance. We took much effort and time researching different stud dogs that would be a complement in breeding Jaylah. We found a gorgeous male that fit our high standards. We were so optimistic and excited, contacted his owner and anticipated this dream breeding almost a year out. We planned for fresh chilled shipments. Sadly, two days before the breeding could take place, the five year old stud dog had a medical crisis and died of cancer. We were stunned and shocked, then even our backup stud was unavailable. We decided to move forward with frozen semen from our beloved Data (stored at our same Repro Vet).

There had only been one previous success using frozen semen, in the history of the Entlebucher breed yet we had little to lose and much to gain if it worked! Waiting for that ultrasound appointment was difficult. We tried not to get our hopes up but also knew many others breeds have routine success with frozen semen. I will never forget the incredible feeling when we saw multiple babies on that ultrasound - immediate goosebumps and tears!

We had not planned on another family addition and logically keeping a full sibling to Risa was not what we imagined for our breeding program or living situation. But as someone has said- we make plans and God laughs. Once the puppies were born, we could not deny there was one special boy that seemed like fate. He looked like a carbon copy of his father right down to having a small, white "Swiss Kiss" on his neck. And there were other personal "signs". It was like Data handpicked and autographed this puppy so there was no question. In our first litter, we could not deny the strong connection to Risa yet we also felt pulled toward the only boy. We did not want to have another male at the risk of of family dynamics or other potential intact male issues. In every litter Data sired, he always threw a carbon copy of himself and we wished it would have worked out to have a Data son. This was our second chance!
